SPDDT and Tyler Fry

Postby Allister Mac » Sat Oct 24, 2009 11:53 am

The Southland Piping and Drumming Development Trust contracted Tyler to run a very successful two day ensemble workshop in Invercargill (home of the Ranfurly Shield) last weekend. A good turnout of over 50 participants over the two days who really enjoyed and benefited from Tyler’s coaching, mentoring, enthusiasm and professionalism.

Tyler and friends Scott Birrell and Alastair Mackenzie (SPDDT tutors) then performed a number of items at a ILT City of Invercargill Highland Pipe Band function on the Saturday night.

Talking to Tyler it is hoped he could be back in Australasia next year; more than once! The SPDDT is certainly keen to get him back and to work with others to benefit all.

Tyler also plans to attend the NZ national champs at Masterton.

Just out of interest - was this open to anyone who wanted to attend or specifically for the SPDDT?

Good question.

It was originally intended to have an open day but the Southland Centre provided the bulk of the funding and so it was closed to those in Southland.

SPDDT would be keen to run an open day or two when Tyler comes back.

Tyler also had a workshop on the 13th of October with the Cale and StAC bands.
Was a productive night and enjoyed by all. Big thanks to James and Richard for getting it off the ground.

Also out of interest, was the one in Christchurch open to anyone wanting to attend or specifically for Cale and StAC members ?
Three blind mice walk into a bar. As they are unaware of their surroundings, to derive humour from it would be exploitative.
